Widely hailed as the greatest vampire film of the past quarter-century, Tomas Alfredson’s extraordinary LET THE RIGHT ONE IN had its Canadian Premiere at Fantasia in 2008, where it won jury awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography. By the end of the year, the film amassed no fewer than 44 awards on the International festival circuit. Among its multitude of noteworthy aspects, the film’s painterly visuals were shot by Hoyte Van Hoytema, who’s since gone on to become Christopher Nolan’s prized cinematographer on INTERSTELLAR, DUNKIRK and TENET. It is a snow-caked masterpiece of horror storytelling, a moving and intelligent fairy-tale addressment of childhood’s end and lonely connections that no other film can approach (least of all the U.S. remake that followed). A profoundly strong work in both style and soul, to experience it on the big screen is a macabre blessing not to be missed.
