Blanca, a brilliant young journalist who is writing a thesis on violence, is unaware that a psychopathic killer is on her trail. Manuel Lamas’ ACT OF VIOLENCE IN A YOUNG JOURNALIST is a filmic curio that has never been shown outside of Uruguay, and remained a VHS oddity since its release. “Action.. Romance… Mystery… Sex… Magic…” proclaims its trailer as we witness what seems to be an absurd supernatural drama, with a “raw, a rough, unusual narrative impulse”, featuring some cringey yet fascinating telenovela acting. This film has been celebrated as a cult film (a? la THE ROOM) by local cinephiles and camp aficionados, while its origins have remained shrouded in mystery for decades... Until now!
FANTASIA EXCLUSIVE: ACT OF VIOLENCE IN A YOUNG JOURNALIST is presented as a double bill along with the fascinating documentary feature STRAIGHT TO VHS, of which it is the subject. – Celia Pouzet
