LA MARINA DE CHRISTOPHE LEVAC ET ETIENNE GALLOY FINN WOLFHARDEN CONVERSATION AVEC JAY BARUCHEL

À FANTASIAEN LIGNE DU 20 AOÛT AU 2 SEPTEMBRE

Montréal, le 26 août 2020 – La 24^e édition du Festival Fantasia se poursuit et présentera plusieurs titres en primeur cette fin de semaine dont LA MARINA, premier long-métrage de Christophe Levac et Etienne Galloy, ainsi qu’une série de de panels de discussions, d’ateliers, et événements spéciaux qui seront accessibles en ligne pour le public canadien.

Le public pourra notamment découvrir en première mondiale le premier long-métrage de Etienne Galloy et Christophe Levac LA MARINA, récit initiatique estival mettant en vedette Rémi Goulet et Rose-Marie Perrault, le jeudi 27 août à 21h. La projection sera suivie d’une séance de questions-réponses avec les réalisateurs.

Par ailleurs, juste avant à 19h15, sera projeté le long-métrage français UNE SIRÈNE À PARIS de Mathias Malzieu avec Nicolas Duvauchelle, Marylin Lima et Rossy De Palma. Le lendemain, les festivaliers pourront découvrir JUMBO de la française Zoé Wittock, mettant en vedette Emmanuelle Bercot (La tête haute) et Noémie Merlant (Portrait de la jeune fille en feu) qui s’éprend d’un manège au cœur d’un parc d’attraction. Le lendemain, samedi 29 août, les spectateurs pourront également voir le western féministe de David Perrault L’ÉTAT SAUVAGE avec Alice Isaaz. Tourné en partie au Québec, le film se joue des codes du genre pour porter à l’écran l’histoire assez méconnue des Français en Amérique du XVIe au XIXe siècle.

Rappelons également que le Festival présentera une série de discussions et de conférences gratuites, accessibles à tous sur sa chaine Youtube. Mentionnons notamment, le samedi 29 août à 14h, une discussion entre l’acteur et musicien Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) et le réalisateur et acteur canadien Jay Baruchel (Random Acts of Violence) et le mardi 1^er septembre à 15h, une discussion entre Justin McConnell, réalisateur du documentaire/guide de survie au sein de l’industrie du cinéma indépendant CLAPBOARD JUNGLE présenté au Festival, et le réalisateur Vincenzo Natali.

Enfin, le dimanche 30 août, en direct et sur Facebook, se clôtureront les Fantastiques weekends du cinéma québécois avec la présentation de ROSELINE COMME DANS LES FILMS de Sara Boudreau avec Louise Portal et L’ÂGE D’OR de Emmanuelle Lacombe avec Fanny Malette.

Rappelons que cette 24^e édition a lieu en ligne jusqu’au 2 août. Par le biais de la plateforme FestivalScope, les festivaliers ont accès, à travers le Canada, à un programme complet de films, de panels, de discussions et d’ateliers. Le service offert est géo localisé et réservé au public canadien, permettant ainsi aux nombreux cinéphiles à travers le pays de profiter du Festival. JUMBO, LUCKY AND THE DARK & THE WICKED

Montreal, August 27^th – The 24^th edition of Fantasia will screen several premieres and panels over the coming days: including a talk between actor and musician Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Canadian actor and director Jay Baruchel (Random Acts of Violence) and, on closing day, a talk between Justin McConnell (CLAPBOARD JUNGLE) and Vincenzo Natali (Cube, The Tall Grass).

During the Festival last days, Fantasia will host a series of talk and panels, free of charge and accessible worldwide through their Youtube channel. On Saturday August 29^th at 2PM EST, the Festival will host a talk between British Columbian actor and musician Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and director Jay Baruchel (Random Acts of Violence). To celebrate the launch of Wolfhard move into storytelling with NIGHT SHIFT,his first short film also presented at the Festival, Fantasia will be presenting a live virtual artist talk between him and none other than Canadian actor and director Jay Baruchel. And, on Festival closing day, Tuesday September 1^st at 3PM, in celebration of the showings of CLAPBOARD JUNGLE, the new documentary / moviemaking survival guide from Toronto’s Justin McConnell (Lifechanger), Fantasia will be presenting a special talk with its director Justin McConnell in conversation with director Vincenzo Natali (CUBE, IN THE TALL GRASS).

In addition to these panels, Fantasia will also present a series of feature films, premiering at the Festival. On Thursday and Friday, respectively at 7.15 PM and 1 PM, Fantasia will be screening Mathias Malzieu fantasy and poignant melodrama, A MERMAID IN PARIS which depicts the love story between Gaspard (Nicolas Duvauchelle), a brokenhearted Frenchman, and a mermaid in the City of Lights. The next day, on Friday, at 9.45 PM, festivalgoers will be able to discover Bryan Bertino’s frightening feature screened at Tribeca, THE DARK & THE WICKED which will be followed at 11 PM by Natasha Kermani’s LUCKY, screened this year at South By Southwest.

On that same day, at 9 PM, the audience will be able to see JUMBO by French director Zoé Wittock: presented at Sundance this year, the film stars Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a lady on fire) who falls in love with a merry-go-round in the heart of an amusement park. Finally, during this second and last weekend, Fantasia will be presenting SAVAGE STATE, a feminist western directed by David Perrault. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director.

Fantasia’s 24^th edition is held online until September 2. Tickets for the Festival are on sale on the Festival's website.
