Chow is a downright nobody saddled with debt and no ambition, unable to pay for his son’s surgery. He was once a media sensation as a one-second boy wonder due to his ability to see exactly that far into the future. This superpower has its drawbacks – he’ll never be able to win the lottery or prevent major disasters. One night, during a bar fight, a random gym owner notices him as he defeats his opponents with his special ability to see one second ahead. The owner, himself unsuccessful in the boxing ring, grooms Chow into the ultimate fighter from scratch, incorporating his one-second talent to their unique mixed boxing style. The tactic works, and Chow embarks on a parade of victories, regaining his dignity and a new sense of purpose. However, an unbeaten contender, Instant Killer Joe (BAD GENIUS’ Chanon Santinatornkul), is unamused and ready to take him on.
Imagine a high-concept ROCKY and CREED with a more developed funny-bone and dangerously high-pressure fun, Hong Kong style, from some of the creative team behind and in front of the camera for Fantasia favourite VAMPIRE CLEANUP DEPARTMENT, which revived the hopping vampire genre with fresh blood. Its co-director Chiu Sin-Hang applies his creative juices to truly rejuvenate the tired boxing genre with a six-pack of breathtaking fights under the action direction of Leung Pok Yan (ENTER THE FAT DRAGON), and much needed humour and heart, scoring a knockout punch. Are you ready to rumble? – King-Wei Chu
The legendary Koji Yakusho delivers one of his most moving performances in this repentant yakuza drama by Miwa Nishikawa.
A masterful film with a phenomenal actress, using the codes of the boxing drama to deliver a moving, powerful and hopeful work.
Kin Long Chan
Petty crook Kwan must decide where his loyalties and fortune lie. Drama, suspense, humour and action in the neon-soaked underbelly of Hong Kong.
